SEO for Dentists and Dental Practices

Dental SEO is the work that gets your practice found when someone nearby searches for a dentist or a treatment you offer. I'm Caleb, a local SEO specialist with 7+ years' experience, and I've worked on dental clinics including The Smile Designer, Coastal Dental Care, Axis Dental and Nova Dental.

What is dental SEO?

Dental SEO is improving your practice's website, Google Business Profile and online reputation so new patients find you when they search nearby. For most clinics across Australia that means three places: the Google Maps results, the organic results underneath, and increasingly AI answers such as Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT.

Paid campaigns stop the moment the budget stops. SEO builds visibility you keep. Plenty of clinics run both: ads for quick bookings, SEO for long-term patient growth and organic traffic.

Why SEO for dentists is different

Dental content is health content, so Google treats it as "Your Money or Your Life" (YMYL) and holds your website to a higher standard of trust. That standard is usually described as E-E-A-T: experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust. Clinics that ignore it tend to struggle no matter how many blog posts they publish.

Authoritativeness

Trust

What E-E-A-T looks like on a dental website
01

Your clinical team is the proof

Every dentist should have their own profile page: qualifications, registration, areas of interest, years of experience and a photo, connected with schema so Google links each clinician to your clinic. Most websites I review have one team page with a line or two per person.

02

Every treatment needs its own page

Someone searching for dental implants and someone booking a check-up are different patients with different questions and keywords. Implants, Invisalign, veneers, emergency dentistry and children's dentistry each need a detailed page of their own. Thin treatment pages are one of the most common gaps I find.

03

AHPRA rules shape the copy

Advertising has to follow AHPRA's guidelines, which restrict things like testimonials about clinical care and misleading claims. Content is written with those rules in mind, and the practice manages review replies and any case photos.

04

Blogs that don't help the pages that matter

Lots of clinics publish blog posts and never link them to their treatment pages. The articles sit there on their own instead of passing authority to the pages that actually bring in new patients.

What's included in my dental SEO

My dental marketing work focuses on your website's rankings and growth. I shape your SEO strategy around what is actually holding you back.

02

Treatment pages and team profiles

I map keywords to each treatment, plan comprehensive treatment pages and set up a profile page for every clinician. Your dentists know the treatments best, so I prefer they write to my brief. If they're short on time, my freelance copywriter writes to the same brief and the practice reviews it.

03

Internal linking

Every blog post links to the treatment page it supports, so the authority it earns flows to the pages that bring in patients.

04

Technical SEO services and schema

Fast, mobile-friendly pages with dental clinic, practitioner and FAQ schema so Google and AI tools understand who your clinicians are and what you offer.

How I'd approach your practice's SEO

  1. 1

    Free audit

I review your website, Google Business Profile, treatment pages, team profiles and the clinics outranking you nearby.

  2. 2

A quote based on the audit

I don't publish a set price for SEO for your dental clinic. The number of treatments and locations, how competitive your area is and the state of your website all change the work. The audit tells me what's needed, then I quote. No lock-in contracts.

  3. 3

    Keyword and page mapping

Each treatment gets its own search keywords and target page, so pages don't compete with each other.

  4. 4

    Monthly implementation

Profile updates, treatment pages, internal links, citations and links, worked through every month in priority order.

  5. 5

    Live reporting

A live dashboard to check your website rankings and results any time, rather than waiting for a monthly PDF.

What clients say about working with me

How long does dental SEO take?

Most practices see early movement in Google Maps and for less competitive treatments within the first few months. Competitive treatments such as implants or Invisalign in a capital city usually take six to twelve months or longer. It depends on your competition, your website's starting point and how quickly changes get made.

Typical timeline, varies by market

  1. Stage 1

    Months 1 to 3

Foundations, Google Business Profile and quick wins

  2. Stage 2

    Months 3 to 6

Treatment pages gain ground, Maps visibility improves

  3. Stage 3

    Months 6 to 12+

    Competitive treatments in capital cities

Timing depends on your market and starting point.

Who this is for (and who it isn't)

Fit if

  • You're an independent practice or small group that wants more patients for specific treatments
  • You want to deal directly with the person running your SEO
  • Your team can help with profiles and content, or you're happy for my copywriter to write and you review
  • You can give access to your website and Google Business Profile

Not a fit if

  • You want guaranteed first page rankings
  • You want content that ignores AHPRA's advertising rules
  • You only want paid ads
  • You want a large agency with account managers

Dental SEO FAQs

SEO is improving your dental practice's website, Google Business Profile and reputation so you appear when people nearby search for a dentist or a specific treatment. It covers treatment pages, dentist profiles, technical fixes, reviews, citations and links.

It depends on the number of treatments and locations, how competitive your area is and the state of your website. I run a free audit first, then quote based on what your practice needs. No lock-in contracts.

Early movement usually shows within a few months, especially in Google Maps. Competitive treatments in capital cities typically take six to twelve months or more.

Ads bring bookings quickly but stop when the spend stops. SEO takes longer but builds visibility you keep. Many clinics use paid campaigns while SEO builds.

No, and be wary of anyone who does. What I can promise is the work gets done properly every month and you can see the results on your live dashboard.

Content is written with AHPRA's advertising guidelines in mind, and your practice reviews everything before it goes live. You remain responsible for your advertising, so final sign-off sits with you.

Yes. Each treatment attracts different patients searching different terms, and a dedicated, detailed page is what ranks. One page listing every treatment rarely ranks for any of them.

Keyword research comes first. I look at what patients in your area search for, how competitive each treatment is and which searches bring in bookings, then map each keyword set to one treatment page so pages don't compete with each other.

Yes. I work with practices across Australia. Local SEO is about the area around your clinic, so the work is the same wherever you are, and I report on local search results for your suburb and nearby areas.

It helps. Your SEO strategy gives AI tools clear answers, consistent clinic details and strong dental team profiles, the same signals that improve your local Google search results.
